Lenovo – Case Study

Lenovo Group Limited is the world’s first-largest PC vendor. The Chinese multinational computer hardware and electronics company has its operational headquarters in Morrisville, North Carolina, United States. Its products include personal computers, tablet computers, mobile phones, workstations, servers, electronic storage devices and IT management software.

Lenovo has been working with XMOS since 2019, collaborating to deliver conferencing solutions with outstanding performance.

In the face of the global pandemic, and with an increasing focus on working from home and flexible working scenarios, Lenovo was looking to develop the ultimate audio-conferencing experience with their Concall base PC accessory product.

During the development process, Lenovo’s AIO (All-in-One) team, set about looking for a conferencing solution that delivered clear far-field voice pick-up, excellent acoustic echo cancellation (AEC), and double-talk performance.

Having learned of another Lenovo team’s previous positive experience of working with XMOS to deliver a successful, premium conferencing device in the Lenovo Hub 60, the AIO team decided to proceed with pursuing an XMOS solution.

The Lenovo AIO team was impressed with the proven solution that XMOS was able to deliver, ensuring outstanding AEC and double-talk performance and meeting Microsoft Teams’ stringent certification. They found that there was no other comparable solution on the market.

Incorporating the audio design from the Hub 60, Lenovo introduced XMOS’s latest XVF3600 voice processor into the Concall base PC device. They felt fully supported by XMOS during the process, welcoming the detailed product introduction and recommendations, before a detailed guide on the final design. The XMOS FAE team also delivered on-site support for audio performance tuning.

By using XMOS’ XVF3600 solution, Lenovo were able to ensure excellent performance for the Concall base device and pass dual Microsoft Teams certification test in the PAL lab.

Reflecting the success of the collaborative relationship to date, Lenovo are already working on a proof-of-concept project based on the very latest conferencing solution from XMOS.
